Working with Smart Web

Using the DPE (Device Preference Engine) Feature

The DPE (Device Preference Engine) is a separate, stand-alone application in which device preference information defined. A DPE profile consists of a set of devices through which a message can be escalated until the user indicates that the message was received.

Integrating DPE with Smart Suite enables Smart Suite to use a DPE profile to manage device preferences and message escalations. Each Smart Suite user that wants to use device preferences must also have a DPE profile in the DPE. This ensures that the DPE profile is used to determine to which device a message should be sent.

When the user saves the DPE profile, a virtual default DPE pager is created for the user’s record in Smart Suite. The DPE pager is a virtual device that represents the DPE profile and, subsequently, the message escalation. The virtual DPE pager is included in the pager list in the Device Mgmt tab in the Personal Profile. For more information, please refer to Reviewing Pagers and Email Addresses (Device Mgmt Tab).

Information about the escalated DPE messages can be viewed in the Page Log screen. For detailed information, please refer to Viewing DPE (Device Preference Engine) Message Information.
